Delhi gets 227mm August rain; humidity spike pushes heat index to 46°C

Delhi's heat index shot up to 46.1°C on Saturday as humidity surged, even as the city has logged 227.2mm of rain so far in August, the Times of India and Hindustan Times reported. The actual maximum temperature was 34.8°C, a notch above normal, according to ToI, while the minimum was 26°C. Hindustan Times said Safdarjung recorded 5.8mm of rain on Friday, taking the month's total to 226.6mm against a normal of 233.1mm.

Air quality remained satisfactory, with AQI readings of 93 (ToI) and 98 (HT). Rainfall on Friday was uneven: Pusa received 30mm, Chhatarpur 24.5mm, and Mayur Vihar 8mm. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast light to very light rain over the next few days with generally cloudy skies and no significant change in maximum temperatures, which are expected to stay below 35°C.
