India targets $500bn electronics output by 2030, clears 31 projects

India aims to achieve annual electronics and semiconductor production worth $500 billion by 2030, a senior government official said on Thursday. Addressing the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce Dialogue 2026, DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia said the Viksit Bharat roadmap includes sector-specific action plans with milestones for 2030. Production is to rise from the current baseline of around $330 billion to $500 billion by 2030, and further to between $5.3 trillion and $8 trillion by 2047.

Separately, the government has approved 31 applications under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) with proposed additional investments of Rs 7,877 crore. Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said facilities by Kaynes Technology, Dixon Technologies, Wipro and Motherson are expected to begin operations in the coming months. The Times of India reports that the ECMS, notified in April 2025 with an outlay of Rs 22,919 crore later raised to Rs 40,000 crore, has now attracted 106 proposals committing Rs 69,548 crore in investment, exceeding the initial target of Rs 59,350 crore.
