PMC approves ₹13.05 crore BSL-2 lab at Kasba Peth

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appointed a contractor to build a BSL-2 laboratory and metropolitan surveillance unit at Kasba Peth. The project will cost Rs 13.05 crore, inclusive of Rs 1.98 crore in GST and Rs 21,930 for material testing.

The civic body’s standing committee approved the civil work for M/s Concept Creator on Friday. Standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the facility will strengthen disease surveillance, sample testing and outbreak control. The project is funded by the National Centre for Disease Control, and a provision of Rs 27.85 crore has been made in the 2026-27 budget.

Tenders were invited for work valued at Rs 13.28 crore against an estimated Rs 15.69 crore. Three bids were received; two were eligible. Concept Creator quoted Rs 11.04 crore, 16.86% below the tender amount, and was recommended. The building department will execute the work within available funds.
